A London Winter Tale
Check out our latest work from MovieBrats Studios and get into instant christmas mode with the 2D animated short “A London Winter Tale” for Montblanc‘s 2015 holiday season campaign. MovieBrats Studios handled the the full production for Montblanc International and Scholz & Friends Berlin from script and initital character designs through storyboarding, art direction to final animation, directed by our very own Tom Schirdewahn from a script by Raven Burnett.
Eurimages for Zoology
Happy to announce that the Eurimages is supporting our co-production of ZOOLOGY, the new film by director Ivan Tverdovsky, produced with New People Film Company in Russia and Arizona Films in France. Many thanks to the Board of Management of the Council of Europe! Production of ZOOLOGY is about to start shooting in early November in Russia.
LOST PLACE out now in Japan
Our mystery thriller LOST PLACE 3D is now available on DVD in the land of the rising sun. Check out the Japanese trailer on YouTube, featuring a few new, more or less subtle sound and transition effects, but could also use a big, fat spoiler warning! THE SPEED BREED goes Shanghai
We are honored to announce that our Chinese-German action comedy THE SPEED BREED 3D is among the five European projects that have been selected for the Sino-European Project Lab by Bridging The Dragon. The first part of the lab will be held from June 9-13 leading up to the Shanghai Film Festival, while part two commences in August as part of the Festival de Locarno. The lab is hosted in partnership with the D’Hive Media Hub and the TorinoFilmLab.
Animation Production Day
Meet us in Stuttgart! Our 3D animated feature project HUMP will take us to this year’s Animation Production Day, a part of FMX and the ITFS International Animation Film Festival Stuttgart, that is hosted on May 7 and 8 at L-Bank in Stuttgart.
Beijing Film Festival
We are honored that our Chinese action comedy project THE SPEED BREED 3D has been selected for the Sino Foreign Co-Production Forum at the Beijing Film Festival. Pitchings and one-to-one meetings will be held at the China Millennium Monument from April 17 to 19. Among the international guests of the forum are such filmmakers as Jean-Jacques Annaud, Darren Aronofsky, Tsui Hark and Tom DeSanto.
HUMP goes Lyon
From March 4 to 6 we will be attending the Cartoon Movie event in Lyon, France, where we are going to present our 3D animated feature HUMP as part of the official selection. The presentation of HUMP will be held on March 6, at 11:30am at the Studio Lyon.

LOST PLACE is out on DVD and Blu-ray 3D (and 2D) in Germany on March 28 (incl. english subtitles). The discs are bursting with a ton of special features: interviews with the cast and crew, deleted scenes, video diaries, soundtrack recordings and much more. LOST PLACE was shortlisted for the German Film Award LOLA in the category “Best Sound”. Congrats to the team of sound designer Martin Frühmorgen and re-recording mixer Holger Lehmann from Rotor Film as well as sound mixers Magnus Pflüger and Robert Damrau. The final nominations will be announced on March 28, 2014.
MovieBrats supports Superhobo
MovieBrats Films & Animation in collaboration with Scholz & Friends Berlin and Yorck Kinogruppe present SUPERPENNER. MovieBrats supports the new comic supplement of Berlin’s biggest street newspaper strassenfeger with an animated trailer. Since January 13, the issue can be bought only from the homeless people of Berlin.
3D Award for LOST PLACE
We are honored to announce that LOST PLACE wins the award for “Best 3D Film with immersive 3D sound” that was given out for the first time this year at the International 3D Film Festival in Liège, Belgium. LOST PLACE was natively mixed and released in Dolby Atmos. A huge thank you to the jury.
3D Stereo Media Conference
Save the Date! On December 5, producer Alex Weimer will give a short talk on the use of Dolby Atmos in LOST PLACE at the 3D Stereo Media Professional Conference in Liège, Belgium. International 3D Film Festival
The MovieBrats-produced mystery thriller LOST PLACE 3D has been nominated at the International 3D Film Festival in the category “3D contents enhanced by immersive 3D audio”. The awards ceremony will be held during 3D Stereo Media on the evening of December 6 at the Royal Opera House in Liége, Belgium.
From November 6-12 MovieBrats Films & Animation will be attending the American Film Market 2013 in Santa Monica. LOST PLACE Theatrical Release
Today, September 19, LOST PLACE is released in theaters throughout Germany. Click here for a list of all cinemas showing the mystery thriller in 3D starring François Goeske, Josefine Preuß, Jytte-Merle Böhrnsen and Pit Bukowski. Film will also be coming to Austria tomorrow, September 20, 2013.
LOST PLACE premieres
The MovieBrats-produced mystery thriller LOST PLACE 3D is celebrating its Germany Premiere today, September 16, 2013, in Kaiserslautern, followed by the Dolby Atmos Premiere at Berlin’s Cinestar at Sony Center on Thursday, September 19, 2013, which also marks the date of its official theatrical release throughout Germany.
LOST PLACE 3D – International Release Dates
After the initial German theatrical release of LOST PLACE on September 19, the 3D flick will come to Austrian cinemas only a day later, on September 20, via Thimfilm and to Russian cinemas on November 21 via Carmen Films.

Whip out your 3D glasses! The theatrical trailer for our mystery thriller LOST PLACE 3D is now also available in stereoscopic 3D. For regular (i.e. non-3D-capable) screens you need anaglyph 3D glasses (i.e. red-cyan). If you access it with a 3DTV or 3D-capable computer monitor or laptop, you can also watch it in side-by-side mode. In 2012, Dolby launched Dolby Atmos at the CineEurope with a screening of Disney Pixar’s “Brave”, the first feature film in Dolby Atmos. LOST PLACE at Cine Tradeshow
The full theatrical trailer for LOST PLACE premiered yesterday as part of the NFP marketing & distribution tradeshow at the German cinema congress “Kino 2013″ in Baden-Baden. Head of distribution Christoph Ott took center stage with director Thorsten Klein, producers Alex Weimer and Lena Vurma and lead actor François Goeske to present it to an audience of roughly 700 industry professionals. We are so happy to announce that ASTERNAUTS got selected for the Austin Film Society SXSW 2013 ShortCase screening on March 10 at the Vance Boyd Theatre in Austin, TX. This is even more exciting as it also marks the film’s Austin premiere. After it has been shot in and around Austin more than 1 1/2 years ago and has already travelled halfway around the world, it is finally coming home.
LOST PLACE: New Release Date
NFP and Warner Bros. pushed back the German release date for LOST PLACE to September 19, 2013 to be able to release the film in a more favorable environment in late summer, also fitting the film’s storyline. Following its recent presentation in Dolby Atmos during this year’s Berlin Film Festival, the push-back also opens up the chance to release the movie across far more Dolby Atmos-equipped screens in Germany than currently available.
Development Grant for MUMMENSCHANZ

Out now: The latest piece of animation created by MovieBrats is a cheeky TV ad for the erotic items store chain Orion and Scholz & Friends Berlin. The lavish CG animated 30-second commercial was completely produced inhouse within only 2 months and airs on German television from now on till early November.

Two MovieBrats productions grab nominations at the 2012 Jerry Goldsmith Awards: “Der Ranger” from the movie IMPURITY, music by Adrian Sieber, lyrics by Thomas Büttner, gets nominated for BEST SONG. And the score for ASTERNAUTS, music also by Adrian Sieber, gets nominated for BEST MUSIC IN A LIVE ACTION SHORT FILM. Awards will be given out on June 28 at the International Film Music Festival in Cordoba, Spain.

The film will have its international festival premiere on June 11 at the Festival Internacional de Cine de Huesca in Spain.

Today, MovieBrats began working on the animated short film THE LITTLE RED PAPERSHIP for Polish newcomer director Ola Zareba. The german-polish co-production is produced by dragonfly films (Germany) and Odeon Film (Poland) with the support of the co-production fund of the Robert Bosch Stiftung. All 2D animation and backgrounds are being handled at MovieBrats in Berlin.

At the 9th German-French Filmbiz Gathering (Les Rendez-vous franco-allemands du cinéma) MovieBrats managing director Alex Weimer will talk about Transmedia Storytelling from the Producer’s Point-of-View and showcase some examples from the case study LOST PLACE. This year’s Rendez-vous takes place from November 23-24 in Paris, France.
…is also the topic at this year’s Marl Media Days (“Marler Tage der Medienkultur”), where both MovieBrats managing directors, Esther Friedrich and Alex Weimer, will again showcase transmedia ideas for LOST PLACE.
